About Mark Boersma

Although educated in the fields of Slavonic and Korean studies, Mark Boersma has recently taken an interest in what may be called the westernmost area orientalists might primarily concern themselves with: The Balkans. He expects that through the Digital Orientalist he will be able to reach a larger audience with meaningful introductions to digital resources that may come in handy for -especially beginning or aspiring- Balkanologists. These resources may run the gamut from rather unsophisticated ones, such as a repository of scanned works that have become public domain, up to very intelligent online aids that may greatly facilitate philological or historiographical scholarship on -primarily- the Balkans. The main focus on his forthcoming publications may lie on the Ottoman period and Ottoman sources, although other linguistic and historical communities will receive attention.
