Martina Tremolada is a doctoral candidate in Archaeological, Historical and Art Historical Sciences at the University of Turin and is affiliated with the ERC CoG project REDMIX “Unpacking Mixedness for an Inclusive History of the Red Sea, 1800s-2000s.” She holds a Double Master’s Degree in African and Asian Studies from the University of Pavia and in Cultural Studies from Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fes.
Her research interests focus on the modern history of North Africa and the Red Sea region, with particular attention to trans-imperial mobility and networks, migration and urban history. Her doctoral research explores mobility, settlement, urban spaces, and intermarriage among Maghrebi communities in Egypt and across the Red Sea region from the mid-nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century, combining historical research with Digital Humanities methods to investigate patterns of mobility, migration, and settlement.
Martina has also contributed to the project “Making the Past a Digital Reality. Strategies, Tools and Activities for the Digital Preservation of Eritrea’s Cultural Heritage”, working on the development of the National Digital Library of Eritrea and compiling a comprehensive bibliography of books on Eritrea published abroad between 2000 and 2026. Through this work, she has developed her expertise in digital bibliographic tools, particularly Zotero, and currently contributes to the creation of the REDMIX Digital Library.
