About Anaïs Wion

Anaïs Wion is an historian, specialist of Ethiopia during the Middle Ages and Pre-Modern periods. Researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France, she is involved in Digital Humanities since more than 15 years, with a special focus on diplomatics and the use of TEI/XML to encode and edit archival documents. She has been chief editor of an online academic journal : Afriques. Historical debates, methods and fields . She is presently the head of a project aiming to publish electronically the notebooks of a French traveller in Ethiopia in the mid-19th c., Antoine d’Abbadie, using tools and methods such as online transcription, crowdsourcing, HTR and TEI encoding – see her twitter account!
