Over at http://laneslexicon.github.io , we can soon find an application that allows for easy access to Lane’s Lexicon. What I find especially attractive about this effort is that it allows for different ways to find what you would be interested in and also allows for bookmarking entries. These are important features because for digital versions of dictionaries it is pretty hard to beat the superior browsing experience of a hard copy. Digital versions are therefore not absolutely better, despite the obvious possibility of full-text search. The different, innovative ways in which this application seeks to unlock the data for users is promising and is in my opinion exactly the kind of efforts we need to undertake to bring our field of studies to the next level.
