Emine Turkmen is a doctoral candidate in Historical Studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She earned her undergraduate degree in History from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey and completed a master’s in American Studies at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. She also attended the Department of History (American History Track) at Bilkent University and the Latin and North American Studies program at Middle East Technical University as part of her graduate program. She completed several internships and research assistantships in various think tanks, non-governmental organizations, and public policy centers. Her research focus includes Turkish and American histories, the late Ottoman Empire, and the history of the modern Middle East. She has also developed an interest in digital humanities since the Summer of 2023.
