Helen Giunashvili completed her Doctoral Thesis on the subject “Personal Verbal Forms in Parthian and Early Middle Persian”at the Institute of Oriental Studies (Institute of Oriental Manuscripts) at St. Petersburg.
Her experience includes scholarly assignments at the University of Tehran, the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, and the French Institute of Iranian Studies (1996-1999); invited researcher at the University of Sorbonne, and National Center of Scientific Researches (CNRS), by Prof. Ph. Gignoux (1999-2001); post-doctoral research program at the Sorbonne, with Prof. P. Lecocq (2002-2005).
H. Giunashvili is affiliated at George Tsereteli Institute of Oriental Studies/Ilia State University. She is also a foreign representative at the Methodologica Governance University (Paris) and the associated member in the Center of Iranian Studies, SOAS. She is a member of the Islamic Manuscript Association as well.
She published a number of academic works on Iranian-Georgian cultural and linguistic relations.
In 2023-2024, H. Giunashvili was the main participant of the project to digitize the Persian and Georgian-Persian historical documents of the Afshar period (1736-1796) preserved at the National Center of Manuscripts of Georgia. The project was realized as part of the Endangered Archives Program (EAP 1526) with the British Library.
