This presents the proceedings of the conference “Sustainability in the Digital Humanities“, held on 3 June 2023. Bringing together researchers from nine institutions across China, Europe, Japan, and the USA, the event explored how sustainability is being understood, practised, and challenged within Digital Humanities contexts today.
Our invited speakers – Alex Gardner and Catherine Tsuji, discussing The Treasury of Lives, and Anastasia Pineschi, reflecting on three decades of sustainability within the International Dunhuang Project (IDP) project —contributed valuable perspectives on long-term digital stewardship and collaborative infrastructures.
Published in 2024, this collection brings together selected papers presented at the conference, showcasing diverse approaches and understandings of what it means to build sustainable futures in the Digital Humanities.
