The DO 2022/2023. A recap

Dear readers, contributors and participants, with this last post, as editor in Chief of the Digital Orientalist I  would like to take a moment to thank you for yet another amazing year here at the Digital Orientalist. As we often remind ourselves and our audience, we are a group of students, scholars, librarians and independent scholars who volunteer their time to converse and exchange ideas about DH in several fields. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we have increasingly diversified our coverage, and we will continue to do so in the next academic year. If you are interested in contributing, watch out for our Call for Applications coming out this Friday!

In this final post for this academic year, we do a recap of what happened this past 2022/2023.

The DO in numbers

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty of other pieces debating DH, introducing databases, and reviewing them (including free tips!): just browse through our right-side menu under “topics” to get a sense of the huge variety of fields and themes!

To DO 2023 Conference

Held on June 3rd, 2023, on Zoom, the 2023 DO conference on “Sustainability in DH” gathered together 11 speakers from 9 different educational institutions, with a stable attendance of circa 20 people. We are thankful to the organizers: Mariana Zorkina, Rachael Griffiths, James Morris, Jonathan Robkers, and myself. Shout out to Alice Casalini for a great poster design, and Beyza Murat-Abdukarimova for advertising it. The recordings of the conference will be edited and made available on our YouTube channel in Fall 2023.

What’s next?

First of all, a great summer to everyone! We will launch Call for Applications seeking new editors, contributors, guest contributors, and social-media managers this Friday, so please come back in a few days and consider submitting your application!

As usual, we take a break over the summer, returning with our posts in Sept 2023, ready for another year of conversations and exchanges. In the meantime, thank you, and keep it digital!
